Sweet Sophie is available for adoption.

She is 3 years old and weighs 10 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $500.00.

Dear sweet little Sophie - notice those big soft knowing dog eyes?  What a special loving little girl she is, in spite of her mysterious past and a run in with a car.  A good Samaritan found Sophie and took her right to an understanding vet.  The vet touched Sophie and fell in love.  He gently examined this fragile but trusting little creature and knew that he had to make sure that she would recover and live a long life with someone who appreciates her joyful nature. The vet did a thorough exam and found that Sophie had a simple fracture in her front left leg. Smiling thankfully, he assured us that the fracture is healing nicely and did not even need a cast. We finished Sophie's medical care to make sure she is healthy and ready to run and enjoy life with you. She's PERFECT!

Sophie has been delightful!  She enjoys a variety of treats and LOVES to eat (maybe a bit too fast - just add a few large rocks to her bowl to slow her down and all is well).  We have discovered she LOVES squeaky toys! She will work for hours to find that elusive little squeaker - such a smart girl! She has yet to bark -- no squealing, yelping, barking girl here.

She is willing to sit with you and give kisses.  But OH - please - please - please She LOVES to go for long long walks, a hike is a treat for her.  She is active, lively, fast and eager to go.  So if you are not someone who is already an active outdoorsy person, pass her by.  She needs the stimulation of many walks a day.

She is so young - and has not had the opportunity to be fully trained to commands. So please understand and be prepared to sign her up for obedience classes.  Once she knows what you want, she will be so happy to please you.

She is excellent in letting you know she has to go out.  No accidents here!  Sophie tells you emphatically that she has to use the facilities.  Smart girl!  A fenced yard would be an absolute necessity for her. She already escaped once and was hit by a car so a fence would be a safety device to be sure that doesn't happen again. But we never want her out in the yard alone.

She appreciates being able to sleep on your bed.  She also loves other dogs to play with. Belly rubs- yes yes yes!  She will follow you around -- she prefers to be with you as much as possible. So if you are gone many hours a day - she would not be happy.

She rides well in a car seat as well as in a crate in the car ... without uttering a peep!

Her teeth are in good shape - afterall she is a very young girl.

She gets along with other dogs as well as cats and welcomes a caress from a stranger.

So there,  Lady-At-The-Computer, is a description of your perfect little Yorkie girl.  If you are active, have experience with dogs, have the time to spend with her, and perhaps have another small dog for her to play with - you may be just right for Sophie - sweet, dear Sophie.

Sophie will make someone a delightful companion!  Put your application in now to adopt this lovely lady!

Sweet Sophie is vacationing inClifton, NJ, with Diane.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
