Meela is available for adoption.

She is 1 year old and weighs 10.4 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $700.00.

Meela has recovered from her hernia and spay surgery. She’s had her first grooming and was very well behaved. We took her for a well check at the vets and she got most of her immunizations. She only needs one booster. She now weighs 10.4 lbs which the vet says is the perfect weight for her. She continues to be the most lovable, playful, curious and smart little yorkie puppy.  She would like a fenced in yard and maybe a fur brother or sister to play with. She’s potty trained and will let you know when she has to go by barking at you.  She sleeps in her crate or in our bed at night. She goes right in the crate when we go out and doesn’t seem to mind at all. She’s the perfect puppy and is anxious to find her forever home.

Meela, a sweet young 10.4 lb Yorkie girl, came to Save a Yorkie Rescue  from a wonderful samaritan that found her on Craig’s List.  She was given to her first SAYR foster mom on Saturday.   She behaved like a typical 1 year old Yorkie puppy.... playful, curious, precocious and very loving. She was scheduled to see the vet late Monday afternoon for a wellness check and to get her up to date on all her shots and then off to meet her her second foster mom and dad who will keep her until she is adopted. When the vet was examining Meela, she had some concerns about her breathing, and her stomach didn’t feel right, so she recommended X-rays and blood work. Meela had a both. We found out that Meela had  diaphragmatic hernia and she needed surgery right away!  She was transferred to her permanent foster of Monday night!  Tuesday she was taken to Valley Central for an emergency consultation with the surgeon. The surgeon felt she was either kicked and that action put an opening in her diaphragm or she born with it.  Either way, Her intestines were in her chest cavity compressing one lung making it hard for her to breath. Surgery was scheduled for the next day, Wednesday. They kept her overnight because of the seriousness of the situation.  Meela’s surgery went well. She remained hospitalized for a total of 3 nights, 4 days.  Meela went home Friday afternoon and is resting comfortably with her foster family. What a crazy, eventful week Meela had!! Thank goodness she was surrendered to Save A Yorkie Rescue,  and was given the best care possible, who knows what would’ve happened to her!!  It’s kind people like you who are reading this post now that make it possible for us to rescue and give a second chance to Yorkies like Meela and others. Fortunately, Meela’s story will have a happy ending. She will be ready for adoption in about 2 weeks when she is fully recovered and can get her stitches out.  We will do our best to find the perfect forever home for this young Yorkie girl and she will give that family years of love and kisses!

Meela is staying with Maryann, in Nazareth, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
