His story is one we in rescue hear every day. It's one reason we have our rule about children.

Niles was king of the house all of his life. Treated like a baby, cuddled and talked to like a child. And then a child came into the home... Niles didn't know what to make of him. Niles thought nothing of nibbling food out of the child's hand... but mom and dad didn't like that at all.

They were busy now, the baby... the baby... not Niles... the other one... No one had time for him any more.  No time for walks, no time for toys... no time for Niles. It is a story we have heard many many times before. But Niles never heard the story before. He couldn't understand what the problem was. But we know.

Niles is a good boy. A sweet dog. No bad dog. He just wants your love and attention. And he deserves it, cause he's a good dog and an optimum pooper (he asked us to write that). He would love to cuddle with you and oh! please, let someone else have the children!

He's just 9 years old and 9 pounds. A perfect combination. Put in your application. He is vacationing with Jo and Stan in Reading, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart.
2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, ask us for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, from a local newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.

5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in Long Island, or PA, or Maryland, etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally range from $250-$450 depending on the health, age and size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time being adopted.

Why does SAVE A YORKIE RESCUE charge that amount for a rescued dog?

THE AVERAGE COST FOR EACH YORKIE BEFORE IT GOES TO IT'S NEW FOREVER HOME IS OVER $600.00 ! ! !

This includes (if needed) but is not limited to:

a Vet exam, bringing the dog up to date on vaccinations (most dogs have little to no shots when brought in), a fecal check, a heartworm check, a lyme disease check, food, spay/neuter, a dental cleaning for severe problems, treatment for mange, grooming, treatment for ear mites...some dogs require even more. If you had to pay for all of this, you would be spending many hundreds of dollars too!

We charge a higher fee for the younger healthier dogs to help off-set the cost involved with the older dogs that come into the rescue.

ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, NY, DE, VA, CT area's, but will consider homes in nearby surrounding states. Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
