Simon came to us and was introduced his new “pack” ; he was very timid around the new dogs, but sniffed and checked everyone out. There was no muss or fuss with the other dogs.

He needs some training but some of that could be his shyness around new people. He is really a shy young fellow.

He takes treats very well, gently from your hand, and does not hassle the other dogs trying to steal theirs. He loves to be petted and rode home just looking out the window and getting petted.

At bed time he came in and asked to jump on the bed with the rest of the clan and once again there was no hassle at all. Just before bed he really was intrigued by the lightning bugs that were showing off in the yard. You should have seen him looking at each one and wondering what it was and where it where it went when it was done illuminating.

There were no “accidents” in the house. Later, after cookies and morning medicine, which were all taken with gentleness, he was desperately wanting to play chase with another Yorkie, Flirt. He would feint a move at her then run away probably hoping she was going to chase him. After a while of this game, with no success from Flirt wanting to chase, he would bow down and woof at her and run away, but alas she still would not chase him.

He has already learned to use the dog door, at least going out, and really seems to be a well mannered dog. He really likes pets, treats and has been doing a lot of tail wagging, which indicates to us that things are going well. After all he just had an 8 hour car ride yesterday and is still getting used to new people and new surrounding. There is no indication of any problems except that he will need some training, which should be comparatively easy given the speed at which he learned the dog door.

Simon is a bright little man vacationing near Erie, PA with Lenore and Don. Pictures are coming.

Save A Yorkie Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) qualified non-profit organization operating on donations from Yorkie lovers who care. Please help by donating your tax deductible donations.

YOUR generosity is appreciated!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart.
2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, ask us for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, from a local newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.

5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in Long Island, or PA, or Maryland, etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally range from $250-$450 depending on the health, age and size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time being adopted.

Why does SAVE A YORKIE RESCUE charge that amount for a rescued dog?

THE AVERAGE COST FOR EACH YORKIE BEFORE IT GOES TO IT'S NEW FOREVER HOME IS OVER $600.00 ! ! !

This includes (if needed) but is not limited to:

a Vet exam, bringing the dog up to date on vaccinations (most dogs have little to no shots when brought in), a fecal check, a heartworm check, a lyme disease check, food, spay/neuter, a dental cleaning for severe problems, treatment for mange, grooming, treatment for ear mites...some dogs require even more. If you had to pay for all of this, you would be spending many hundreds of dollars too!

We charge a higher fee for the younger healthier dogs to help off-set the cost involved with the older dogs that come into the rescue.

ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, NY, DE, VA, CT area's, but will consider homes in nearby surrounding states. Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
