Lemonade is the coolest baby girl. Just 5 months old this little dear was purchased by an older couple who thought she could replace their beloved Yorkie who recently died. That Yorkie had been 14 years old - quiet and demure. NOT Lemonade!  She was everywhere all the time, getting into mischief as puppies do.

The old folks, of course, could not keep up. It had been many years since they had been around so much energy. They were bewildered and Lemonade did as she pleased which didn't please THEM. Finally they got out a magazine, rolled it up tightly, put rubber bands around it and used this evil weapon to smack Lemonade when she did what came naturally. They were certainly tired of her babyish ways soon enough. They decided to sell her or take her to the local shelter.

Fortunately, a friend of rescue was there and purchased Lemonade. Her life will be forever better because someone stepped in to make it so. Lemonade will be spayed this week, and groomed to look so pretty - just a gorgeous little Yorkie girl. 

She is 5 months old, and about 10 pounds. She will continue to fill in but she won't get much taller. She is vacationing in Reading, PA with Pat and Rod Klunk. If you are sure you have the energy for a puppy - a whirlwind on tiny legs, if you know you will take her to puppy classes and then obedience classes, if you know you will train her, teach her, love her but not spoil her, then you know how to love a puppy. Please put in your application. She is a cool drink of tartness and sweet. A refreshing drop of sunlight in someone's life.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart.  
2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, ask us for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, from a local newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.

5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in Long Island, or PA, or Maryland, etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally range from $250-$450 depending on the health, age and size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time being adopted.

Why does SAVE A YORKIE RESCUE charge that amount for a rescued dog?

THE AVERAGE COST FOR EACH YORKIE BEFORE IT GOES TO IT'S NEW FOREVER HOME IS OVER $600.00 ! ! !

This includes (if needed) but is not limited to:

a Vet exam, bringing the dog up to date on vaccinations (most dogs have little to no shots when brought in), a fecal check, a heartworm check, a lyme disease check, food, spay/neuter, a dental cleaning for severe problems, treatment for mange, grooming, treatment for ear mites...some dogs require even more. If you had to pay for all of this, you would be spending many hundreds of dollars too!

We charge a higher fee for the younger healthier dogs to help off-set the cost involved with the older dogs that come into the rescue.

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, NY, DE, VA, CT area's, but will consider homes in nearby surrounding states. Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
