Cassie is suffering right now... her ears are badly inflammed. Cassie is a cuddle bug who is in such pain right now. The vet was sickened by the condition of her ears. They are far worse than he anticipated. Swollen, inflammed, cauliflowered. And ITCH! My God she is suffering so badly - she cries when she scratches.

But all of that will change - from this moment forward.  Cassie was just at the vet and treatment has begun. A shot, a switch in food and she is being scheduled for surgery to have her ear canals removed. It sounds horrendous and it is hugely expensive but she will feel better and be able to hear again.

Cassie is being cared for in Nelliston, NY by Shannon and her husband.  They will make sure that Cassie gets all the care she needs. But you could help with sponsoring her surgery.  Anything you can give would be appreciated. $5 here and $10 there will get Cassie back to being the loving little Yorkie girl she was meant to be.

Her foster mom writes:  "She has terrible ears, they are badly cauliflowered and she needs to have a Total Ear Canal Ablasion done.  We are hoping to be able to get her in next week to do the surgery.

She is a sweet little girl and travelled very well in the car for the almost 2 hour ride here.

She walked in the house and started exploring right away, she is acting like she has been here her whole life.  She did not even have a problem with my 10 1/2 pound Yorkie girl sho was very curious to see this newcomer.  She went right to my husband and crawled into his lap.  She snuggled into me at the vets office, trembling because she was so scared.  They found alot of yeast in her ears and gave me a solution to use 2 times per day and hopefully that will help with the inflammation and itching.  She has to wear a cone alot to keep fron scratching her ears, because when she scratches them she cries and cries.  She has already ate and drank and seems very content.  She is 4 years old and just over 7 pounds but she looks so much tinier.  She is the sweetest little girl and will take treats from you VERY gently.  She also has allergies so we are elimintaing chicken from her diet right now and trying beef at the moment."

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
