Happy is a beautiful wonderful active energetic puppy.  We want you to know what we are looking for so that you can decide if you are the right home for him. Please read these requirements carefully - this is important. We want you to be happy and we want the same for our Happy.

An apartment, condo or home with no fenced yard will not work.

Happy needs and deserves a fenced yard. He loves to play in the yard and that is a requirement.  No apartment, no townhouse, no condo. A single family home with a fenced yard is a requirement.

He needs someone who has time to spend with him. If you work away from home more than 4 hours, then this is not the right place for Happy.

Are you active? Will you walk with Happy - every day? Several times in appropriate weather of course.

He absolutely has to go to obedience classes. Just as small children need to learn to be social, he needs to learn to be around other dogs and people. Will you take him to class?

He would love to have another small, friendly dog to play with and show him the ropes? It would be great to have someone to chase. So we would like another small dog in the family.

We are looking for someone with dog experience. Someone who has or has raised a dog before and has a good vet history. Someone who can help him with housetraining and learning to come when called. Are you looking to make him part of your family?

If you have what Happy needs, please put in your application. Thank you!

He walks well with a leash. He is handsome and  has a great temperament. He is loving and eager to please.

Happy does learn quickly.  He has more energy than a classroom of first graders.  He is not shy, nor afraid or skittish.   He is inquisitive, alert and into everything.

Mr. Happy loves to play ball.  It is good exercise for him and he brings the ball backwhich is a plus.

Happy McHenry is vacationing in Baltimore, MD with Marie.  Only apply if you have experience with small dogs, have time for training a puppy, are active, and will take him to obedience classes - it is required!  This little bullet is everywhere all at once. What a joy!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
