SAY Rescue welcomesJaci - a sweet, lovable, girl named Jaci that just arrived in our rescue.

Jaci is the quintessential elegant Yorkie girl.  She has the same temperament you find universally in a tiny female.  She has challenges, as we all do – with the same health concerns as all of our Yorkies may have.

Jaci is beautiful – no GORGEOUS – absolutely stunning!  And she knows it! She uses her photogenic qualities to break your heart when you are near her.  At just eight years old, she weighs less than the standard for Yorkies at 6 lbs.

She came in as a rescue because her parents could not afford to care for her; she has all of her vet records for her past vetting. Rescue has taken care of everything that was recommended for Jaci.

Jaci has been seen by our vet and he thought there may be some spinal weakness that prevents her from being able to jump – either stairs or on to furniture (x-rays).  To be on the safe side, we lift her up to sit with us on the couch. We do not allow her on the furniture alone. She sleeps in her own bed in a crate for bed time and we keep her close at night.

She has the same luxating patellas (both knees) as almost every other Yorkie and small breed dog is blessed with. Her hind legs are a bit wobbly and she sometimes has difficulty walking very far. But at 6 pounds, she is easy to pick up and carry – a very portable girl.

She has had her teeth cleaned by our rescue. She is a bit over weight at 6 pounds, but her exercise has been limited this winter. That said, she has lost 8 ounces since she has been with us, which pleased the vet. She is currently on a quality kibble eaten dry, small/toy breed, lamb and rice. She is on a regular schedule for meal times; she eats at 6 am and 3 pm and enjoys your company when she eats.

Jaci has had little obedience training needs to practice basic commands - one at a time – with suitable rewards – such as a baby carrot. She can learn if you have the patience.

We are still working on potty training. Being so small she needs frequent trips to go out to potty. Accidents will come with the territory – every Yorkie is just like Jaci!  They are well known for housetraining issues.

Just like other Yorkies, Jaci does not like being left alone.  In the beginning, she was scared and felt alone. She is better now as she has settled.  Eventually, she will understand that she has nothing to worry about, and I think longer trips for errands will be okay, as long as she is allowed to relieve her tiny bladder.

Reading this so far only gives you an idea of Jaci’s challenges, but Jaci is truly a sweet and lovable baby girl that just wants the same in return. If she could be by your side - she would be sooooo happy. She had sibling brothers, and just like every other Yorkie, again, she thinks she is 6 feet tall and bulletproof – so big dogs don’t hold terror for her. She is ready to show who is the leader of her pack.

Jaci is interested in our cat (no aggression, just an attention struggle!!)

She is adorable and loves to go for car rides. Trips anywhere are greatly appreciated and she will let you know with kisses. She watches my every move (even as I type) as she lays by my side - snoring - and will get up to see where you may go. So if she sounds like she could be your best friend, please put in your application now. We are choosing her new family very soon.

Jaci is vacationing in Pitman, NJ with Flea.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
