R U Sirius?   Yes he is!  The Dog Days of summer are upon us. The term "Dog Days" comes from the fact that Sirius, the Dog Star is high in the night sky.  Just like that dark sky, our Sirius is a black yorkie/poodle mix. As cute as he can be.

Sirius runs around like any playful puppy - he loves toys, walks and playing.  His original owner became homeless so SAY Rescue was called in to help.  He traveled all the way from Massachusetts but that's ok cause Sirius loves car rides although he does not like to be in a crate or carrier - which is normal for a dog who has never been properly introduced to crate training. He is smart and would flourish in obedience training. It is required for him to go so be prepared to go back to school with Sirius.

He wants to see everything!  Meet everyone!  Smell all there is!  He is so very excited to be alive.

He needs help learning to walk properly on a leash- he just loves to pull and take the human for a walk.  He loves going for his daily constitutionals. He gets so excited when it’s time to go outside. He barks at cars - alot. This is something we will work on with him. He is young and eager to learn.
Sirius is very smart and will even let you know when it’s potty time in case you get busy and forget.  He will jump and tag you and do a cute little whimper whine as he runs towards the door.

He has met several dogs along the routes and has been so well behaved.

Sirius absolutely loves people! He might be shy at first but give him a moment and he turns on his charm.  Those eyes, the tilt of his head, his interest in everything is so endearing.

Just like you, Sirius loves to eat!  He has been learning commands of Sit, Stay and Come.  He knows the words Outside and Treat!  He loves his toys and he has an assortment of them though he doesn’t seem to be possessive of them.

He needs to be with an active family that can harness his intelligence and teach him new commands and possibly tricks.  Sirius deserves someone who is home a lot of the time, who has experience with dogs so that they can help him learn to walk politely on a leash.  A fenced yard would be wonderful but it won't substitute for his beloved walks.  He would like an adult dog to show him the ropes in his new home but no big dogs please - he is a little guy who is less than 10 pounds. He loves to cuddle and give kisses but love is NOT enough.  Time, experience and activity are more important to this little Star.  Our Sirius!  R U Sirius about this little guy?

Sirius is vacationing in Paramus, NJ, with Sherry.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
