Meezy is available for adoption.

She is 4 years old and weighs 8 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $450.00.

Meezy gets along great with other dogs. She is a bit fearful, timid and cautious when first meeting people. We have had her for about a week and a half so far and in that time she has become very trusting and loving toward her new family.

A little background on her - she was dropped off at a shelter on November 11, 2016 and was in there until 1/13/17. As you can imagine being in a shelter for that long made her a different dog.In the shelter she would only allow one person to handle her...everyone else she would growl and snap at. We now know that was never the dog she truly was...she is now very confident and loving around me and my husband From what the shelter told us she was given up by a family that had young kids and also a Pitbull. The young children would try to pick her up and chase her and as a result she would growl and snap at them. Also - a pitbull is not the right match for a Yorkie so it was just a high stress terrible environment. She is so glad that she is no longer tortured every day.

When we brought her home she found a nice comfy dog bed and stayed there for most of the afternoon/evening....she growled every time one of us would try to pick her up so we just gave her the space she needed and let her come to us. She has come a VERY LONG WAY since that first 2 days. She sleeps with us and her foster siblings at night and loves it. She snuggles in under the blankets. She comes to me for belly rubs and gives lots of kisses throughout the day. She let me give her a bath last week. But when I tried to blow dry her she growled and snapped at the blow dryer so I just let her air dry.

She makes significant progress as each day passes.  On Monday my husband took her to the vet and she was a perfect angel. She let the vet and the vet tech touch her without a problem.

Meezy is so good with housetraining. She is great on a harness and leash and loves to go for walks.....we walk every day for over a mile and she loves it. Does your dog like to walk? She is also wonderful in the car. Meezy has lots of energy but also doesn't mind relaxing in a nice comfy bed. She doesn't like to be alone....what is your schedule like? Are you home a lot? She likes a routine schedule that is followed every day...eating at the same time, walking at the same time, play time, bedtime, etc. We are looking for the same type of situation in her forever home.

We are looking for someone with lots of patience who is very gentle, loving and understanding of her fearfulness and also someone with experience. She may not like you at first but after a couple of days she will be your best friend. We are also looking for a home without young children...so no grand kids visiting or anything like that.

Meezy is vacationing in Burlington, NJ, with Carol, Tim and their gang.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
