Hello everyone, Grady here to give an update on what’s going on in my life. I have been with my new Foster Dad, Robert, for the last two weeks. Boy do I have a lot to share! Grady starts his day with a nice walk and breakfast of some Chicken and brown rice kibble! Sometimes, dad mixes some scrambled eggs with my breakfast and its yummy! I do well on a leash but like to lead the way. I am one of those sniffer dogs, so I like to have my nose into everything! Grady has not met many dogs in the community, as once he sees one, he pulls hard on the leash and barks, so we go the opposite way. One of his things to work on still. When I go out for my walks, I know exactly where to go to potty and often lead my Dad there.  I love to run around my condo with a toy in hand! My favorite includes rope toys. My dad sits on the couch and throws the ropes, and I fetch till his arm gets tired because I have sooo much energy. When he stops throwing the ropes, I pick up my Kong or chew bone and toss them around and play fetch by myself! What do you expect, I am a puppy still! I like to play!

Other cool things that I have learned and can do is Sit, Shake and Lay Down on command, provided you have a tasty treat in hand! I learned that from my previous foster mom! I am still learning to use the doorbell, but I haven’t done it myself yet. One thing that I do not like is being put in a crate. My dad put me in the crate my 1sttwo nights here and he got no sleep at all and my anxiety was very high. Due to the stress, I was misbehaving and having accidents in the house. The 3rdnight I slept with Dad and I became a different dog! Now, I can have run of my condo when Dad has to leave and I haven’t had an accident or damaged anything while alone! I’m getting better!

One of my biggest improvements this week was when I went to the doggie park and finally got to mingle with new people and other small dogs. I was scared and nervous as heck at first and all the dogs were chasing me around! After a few minutes, I realized that this was fun and started making new friends! I was even going up for belly rubs from all the other humans! Major breakthrough for me! What I really enjoyed while at the park was running full speed ahead, so when I find my forever home, I would really enjoy a fenced in yard!

I also had a summer grooming this week and have a new cut, just look how handsome I look!  Hey, you know what they say don't you...hair grows.

O'Grady is staying with Robert in Newark, DE.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
