Duchess is available for adoption.

She is 6 years old and weighs 9 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $300.00.

Duchess is beginning to come out of he safe space and interact with the family. She doesn’t seem to care about the other dogs. She could take them or leave them. She is very easy going. Each morning when she wakes we go out to potty, then eat, administer her insulin and eye ointment then take a very slow one mile walk with the rest of the pack. She is having far fewer accidents (none on Friday) since beginning her insulin regime. She slept through the night without needing a potty break (Friday evening) for the first time since entering foster care. It seems she is on her way to managing her diabetes with diet, exercise, regular potty visits outside and her daily insulin shots.

Duchess is a very mild mannered little lady. She enjoys sitting on the couch with her foster mom and siblings for coffee in the morning. She enjoys her 1 mile walk at a leisurely pace after breakfast. Throughout the day you will find her napping in her safe space (an open crate with a soft pillow and covered with a blanket), on foster moms bed relaxing or following her around the kitchen hoping for a crumb to fall.

She doesn’t mind other dogs but it would be best if the other pets in the home were calm; sometimes my busy pack makes her a little scared and she seeks out her safe space. Yesterday she met my grand-dog and was a perfect little lady.

Duchess will need quiet home with someone there most of the time. A structured routine will help manage her diabetes. Walking, feeding, medicating and visiting the potty on a regular schedule is going to be the best way to help this sweet girl remain happy and healthy.

Duchess will be available for adoption once her spay and dental have been completed. They will be schedule this week. Stay tuned for her availability. You don’t want to miss out on this little love bug!

Duchess is staying with Sharon in Hopewell, VA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.
