Well Corra got a big surprise for Halloween this year and became a Forever Foster. So for her Halloween I got to tell her she gets to stay our foster baby forever. However nice this is it does not take from how very sad it came to be. Corra is approximately 8-9 years old and has severe Collapsing Trachea, which is a progressive condition and there is no cure. A stint can be placed in her trachea but the outcome of this procedure is usually not a good one. She has most likely had this condition for a while, we found out she had CT after only having her a few days. She was taken to the vet on Monday after having a week of not doing too well and is now taking Prednisone and Hydrocodone several times a day. The Prednisone will help her breathe a little better and hopefully keep the wheezing to a minimum and the hydrocodone will help with the cough/gag that comes with CT. Right now, we are loading her up on prednisone and will start lowering the dose until we find the lowest dose that will still keep her comfortable. Our goal is to keep her calm so she does not cause herself any respiratory distress and we keep a cool mist humidifier running for her in the bedroom at night. My heart hurts for this baby as I helped one of my own baby’s battle this condition and I know the ugliness of it. Therefore, I will do everything in my power to do what is best for her and make sure she knows she is safe and loved. Her first 8-9 years may not have been good but I will make sure her remaining time is the best it can possibly be. Corra will live out her life with her forever foster mom, being well taken care of, spoiled and loved! Many thanks to the wonderful people that are sponsoring Corra!
