Winston was discovered as a stay on the grounds of Main Line Animal Rescue. The administrators felt that he was abandoned on the property by previous owners. He was posted held for a period of time so that he could be claimed by someone if he indeed was there accidentally. No one claimed Winston.

Winston was found to have both urinary and fecal incontinence. His mouth was in terrible shape. He was also extremely thin to the point of being starved and they felt that a lot of his poor bloodwork was the result of malnutrition.
It is felt that his incontinence issues were the result of nerve damage suffered from trauma or abuse.
But one thing that Winston did not have was a poor personality. Frightened, unsure, in pain, but Winston is one of the most loving and friendly dogs that you will ever meet, in spite of all that he’s been through and continues to go through.
Fortunately, Save a Yorkie rescue partners with Main Line Animal Rescue of Phoenixville and offered poor Winston the opportunity for supportive care and a loving home and environment that he was in such desperate need of. Winston’s medical needs were great but the one need that he was most sorely in need of was love. And Save a Yorkie stepped up to offer both. A transfer was performed and Winston is now safe, loved, and cared for as a forever foster in a Save a Yorkie foster home.
The first issue was addressed for Winston as a thorough dental cleaning with extractions was performed. He was also found to have infected gums that he is being treated for presently. Hopefully this will allow Winston to eat and put on some weight that he needs so badly. But his other issues may be lifetime issues. There is no way to know at the present time.
He as been through so much, most of it detrimental to him, but he continues to be a sweet, loving and most remarkably trusting dog.
Winston deserves better that what the the cards of life have dealt him. And that would not be possible without the help of donors like you. Thank you so much for giving Winston the second chance in life that he so richly deserves.
Winston will live out his life being loved and well taken care of with Linda and Bob.

Many thanks to the wonderful people that are Sponsoring Winston!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
