About Ziggy

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Housetrained: Yes
Ziggy - Gone to Glory. 6/9/05 We love you and will see you again at the Bridge little buddy. God bless., oh Ziggy - this beautifully colored little Yorkie boy is only 1 year, 3 months old and weighs 12.2lbs. Ziggy came from a backyard breeder who neglected to have him taken care of medically. Please read on if you really want to help and rescue a Yorkie.Ziggy has been having seizures his whole life and it wasn't until he came into rescue in April that the process to control the seizures began. Ziggy went from never walking in grass to running around the yard like the happy dog he was meant to be. He has come so far in such a short time.Ziggy medical problem needs to be diagnosed. He was originally thought to have a severe case of epilepsy however, on extremely high doses of medication, he still has an occasional seizure. He may very well have the worst epilepsy but without a diagnosis, we'll never know. He needs a skull x-ray and if that finds nothing, then a cerebral spinal fluid tap and if that finds nothing, an MRI. A diagnosis alone would cost a minimum of $1000 but more likely up to $3-4000. And then, if he could be treated, it would likely cost more than the diagnosis.Ziggy is also blind as a result of his condition. He can see shadows and objects but doesn't have clear vision like he should. He also suffers from brain damage from his condition but still functions, has learned his way around his foster home and knows his foster mom's voice. He is a special needs boy that is so sweet and loving - he deserves someone who will love him and give him the best quality of life, even if it isn't the 18 years that a healthy Yorkie should have. If you REALLY want to rescue a Yorkie and think that it's not about time but quality, Ziggy is it! AND since he can't see, he doesn't have the typical Yorkie behavior and gets along with EVERYONE! He is WORTH adopting, without a doubt! Please contact Ziggy's foster mom for more information! To find out more about us, make a donation or purchase one of our handmade items, please visit our website at www.saveayorkierescue.orgSave A Yorkie Rescue is a non-profit organization operating on donations only. Yorkies do not get along well with small children. 2. Yorkies are nearly impossible to housebreak. 3. You will NOT find a puppy in Yorkie Rescue and we consider a dog up to 3 years old to be a puppy. 4. It is rare for us to get a FEMALE into rescue. 5. There is no such thing as a tea cup Yorkie so don't be misled by such a description. 6. Senior Citizens get preferred treatment. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you adopt. Steps to adopt a Yorkie from Save A Yorkie Rescue:1. Go to: www.SaveAYorkieRescue.org 2. KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
