Lacey is available for adoption.

She is 10 years old and weighs 6 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $400.00.

Lacey is approximately 10 years old and weighs 10 pounds. Lacey is the name she was given upon rescue, so she is not yet responding to it. She simply looks at me as if she is asking, "who are you calling?" About a week ago, she drove in from out of state, where she was rescued from a shelter. She did so well on the drive! She actually always does well in the car. She stays comfortably in her car seat and cuddles with her teddy bear and blanket. She has not cared for toys, but she is also probably just trying to adjust to so many other things already. So whether she is a fan of toys is still to be determined. For now, she is getting acquainted with her foster family. Since arriving home, she has quickly bonded and follows everyone around. Our house has three floors, and she has no problem going up and down. Most days, if not always, she beats me up the stairs. She is just a sweetheart and stays as quiet as a mouse. She only whimpers when someone leaves the house or gets dropped off at school or work. She likes to be held or remain close by you.

She appears to have some tartar buildup and is missing some teeth. That may be impacting her eating habits, but we are taking our time. She eats slowly and only wants to eat if we stay close to her. So I tend to sit next to her.

We are working on the potty training. The accidents are decreasing. She does very well on her walks. We walk 4 times a day and average about 2 miles total. She doesn't pull or pay much attention to other dogs. Sometimes she stares, and other times she simply ignores.

For her first home bath, Lacey did not make one sound. She allowed me to bathe her and dry her. Then she rolled around on the carpet for the messy style look. She actually likes to look in the mirror. She should be seeing a groomer in about two weeks for a spa day to get her professional wash, hair cut, and mani/pedi. I am curious to see how she reacts to the mirror after that visit.

Though she did see a vet through the shelter, Lacey is scheduled to see a vet in mid-March for a check-up and see what we need to learn about her.

Lacey is staying with Tanisha and family in Burtonsville, MD.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
