Meet Lanie! Lanie came into Save A Yorkie Rescue last Saturday from a shelter in central PA. We don't know much about her past except she was an owner surrender. We were told she has been passed around a lot but you would never know because of her happy, friendly face (and of course, that waggly tail)!

We had an hour and a half road trip back home and Lanie rode very well. When we arrived, I picked her up and brought her in. My 2 yorkies (Becks and Lena) noticed her in my arms and instantly welcomed her with curiosity and friendly snifs. Her tail was going a mile a minute so I knew it would be OK. She spent the night gated off in the kitchen and we waited for her to crawl into her bed and settle in for the night.

Six thirty rolled around and we could hear her barking telling us to get up. She was a good girl and used the pee pads but I wanted to get her out for a walk. I was told she loves being outside but wondered if that was true even in the pouring rain? Yep, rain does not deter her from wanting to go outside which I'm glad since it's been raining for 5 days now! She's pretty good on the leash but needs a little more practice but I know she'll get it.

She spent a lot of time trying to cozy up to Becks and Lena but Becks would rather have his own space. Lena was perfectly fine letting Lanie snuggle up and lay all over her. Maybe Lena could relate since she was a rescue from a puppy mill at 10 years of age. When she wasn't snuggled up with someone, she was on the go, checking out every nook and cranny she could find. I kept on asking her if she had "ants in her pants" but she eventually settled down.

Lanie has an appointment with the vet on Saturday. We need to determine her age since we’ve gotten several different answers. She is a little peanut weighing only about 7 lbs. We do know she will need to be spayed, have a dental and her flaky skin addressed. In her previous vet records, it mentions she was ran over. She does have a little skip in her step on her rear left leg so we'll make sure that isn't something we need to be concerned with.

We are still learning who Lanie is but so far, she's a sweet, happy, social little girl that wants to be part of the pack. I can’t wait to get to know her better and tell you all about her. More to come later…

Lanie is staying with Debbie in Phoenixville, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
