Nutmeg is available for Adoption.

She is 9 months old and weighs 5 lbs.

Her adoption fee is $950.00.

Well, what can I say about our newest foster Nutmeg (we call her Megg) except that she is the SWEETEST little girl ever!!  She is definitely a lap dog and loves to be with you.  She came from an owner surrender to a shelter being suspected of chewing a pen cap.  Surgery was indicated and the owners could not afford.  This is where SAY stepped in. Lynda, one of our volunteers stepped up and rescued her from the shelter, took her to her vet.  X-rays taken (surgery did not seem to be necessary), stool samples did not show anything really abnormal. With a wonderful team of volunteers driving many miles, I met up with the Opaleks and she came to us last Thursday.  She is a skinny little thing weighing 5 lbs on arrival, not wanting to eat.  Our 3 little gals welcomed her with excitement and after about an hour, Nutmeg fit right in.  Since she didn't seem to like the food that came with her, I cooked her chicken and rice for breakfast and dinner which she gobbled up.  After three days of home cooked food I introduced some kibble to her and now she is all kibble.
So far, only one accident in the house (I was not fast enough getting her out).  That means for a whole week she has done her business outside.  She runs, she plays with our Pepper and even barks at the cat but the cat pays her no mind, being used to 3 other little critters running around.  Oh, and let me tell you, she sleeps right through the night, right next to you.  I keep her on a short leash tethered to me as I don't want her to jump off the bed which she doesn't seem to be interested in.  She is a little "crybaby", wanting to be with you constantly.  Can't leave the room or go outside without her.  She seems to like women more as she will leave my hubby John to run and get to me.  She sure will make some family a wonderful, loving pet. She had her official vet visit today and got a clean bill of health, received DHPP and bordatella although she needs to gain some weight.  New blood work was done and is all negative.  She is one happy little girl.  Nutmeg needs to be spayed and we will be making arrangements for that.

Nutmeg is staying with Sue and John in Harrington, DE.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
