Please read Zachary's Story

Zachary's journey began when a very sick little pup was dumped in a shelter, and we received a call that a dog needs our help.  When we rescued this tiny tot from the shelter, we knew immediately he needed emergency medical care.  He was raced to the emergency veterinary hospital to have him evaluated.  This dog was in septic shock and dying.  We were told he would be lucky to survive the night.  This sweet little boy clung to life as he fought through the infection on high doses of antibiotics coursing through his veins.  By the light of day, he was whisked into surgery to have his leg amputated.  Not a beautiful way to celebrate his first birthday.  Zachary survived this surgery and has recovered well.

It was discovered by the surgeon that someone had placed a small hair tie high up on the Zachary's leg stopping the blood flow and causing the leg to become necrotic and die.  How could this be possible?  How could someone be so cruel to do this to this sweet little pup?  Why???  Then we think what other abuses this little boy had to endure during his short life here.  You want to cry.  But this little boy is resilient.  He bounced back and has made a full recovery.  He is still a sweet little cuddle buddy.

Zachary is doing so well after losing his limb.  He has made a full recovery, and his world is open to all the new and wonderful possibilities.  He is trusting of humans which is amazing considering all he had to go through at the hands of humans.  He loves other dogs and gets around with the greatest of easy.  He was outside yesterday chasing birds and the joy on his face was so beautiful to see.  He is managing the steps and stairs and is doing well.  He loves his walks!  Can you believe it!   This little boy is determined and happy to live his best life!   He didn't shut down he trusts and loves.

Zachary is ready for adoption as soon as he has his neuter done because he is fully recovered from his amputation surgery, with a clean bill of health.  He is now a very happy and healthy tripod little boy full of fun and frolic.  He would benefit from a home with a fenced yard and other dogs to learn from.  He would be happy with an active owner able to meet all his needs and requirements.  This is one special little guy, Won't you give him a second chance to live a happy life in a wonderful home with people who will treat him as family.

Zachary is staying with Sue in Ulysses, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.
