Snickers is the brother of Ginger... another ODCD dog (Owner died, children dumped).

It happens so often - needlessly. If people put the dogs in their wills and planned for this situation, dogs like Snickers and Ginger would not be in dire life threatening straits. Please - plan for you dog. Don't ask your children to take them.

Snickers Oh that little boy! He is so funny! Loves to eat which always amazes his new foster mom since he is so skinny. He is roughly 9 lbs and we think he should be at least 12 lbs to be healthy. They both eat Nutro Max brand. He is louder than his sister but does not bark constantly, only when we play, or if he is hungry or if he is left alone.

he loves his foster mom already :) We can only imagine that he thinks she will not return after having his mother die. We don't think we would say that he has separation anxiety though. He only barks a little. He is very good about being groomed. Like his sister he lets anyone touch him where ever with no fuss.

He needs a hair cut though. He keeps matting and the hair on the pads of his feet is too long. He follows his mom everywhere. He does not like to be alone.

While we think Ginger would be ok as an only pet, Snickers likes to have company and we think he needs her more than she needs him. They are not attached at the hip though. He loves everyone who walks through the door, even kids! He is not afraid of them. The only times he is ever skiddish is when we want to bath him or look at his teeth or weigh him, :) He is never aggressive  Any other time, he comes as soon as you call. He cracks us up.

He is pretty bossy. When he's hungry he jumps  and barks with attitude.

We quite often call him a punk (affectionately) or we call him mama's boy :) He thinks he is big stuff. He throws himself at you and gives you kisses whether you wanted them or not.

He has a really wonderful personality. He loves to be loved. He walks really well on a leash. He is pleasant with kids and other little dogs.

His only problem so far is trying to get into the trash can but we are working on his manners:) He listens very well. They both adjusted to our home quickly. They snuggle with us all day and sleep in our room at night in a pen on the floor.

He is vacationing in Allentown, PA with Rachel.Give her a call to ask for more information. Pictures soon.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.
