Dooley is available for adoption.

He is 4 years old and weighs 6 lbs.

His adoption fee is $750.00.

His favorite place of all is cuddled in the palm of your hand - dark head tucked back to your elbow and under – like a baby bird, his breath escaping in contented sighs.  He quivers with joy when picked up and held against your heart. When he espies a friend he scampers to them with hopes that he will be scooped up and embraced warmly.

His eyes are large, intelligent and expressive – he seems to be asking questions and expects a full answer - what is next? What are we doing now? Are there any cookies here? Lets play more games!

Learning new behaviors is fun – he has found that he can perch on a target and the reward is lavish. When we go for walks he often turns and comes running back to check on his mom and grab a cookie. Going into the crate is a treat too – because all learning is done with games.

Playing with the other dogs has become a new adventure. The others often initiate the fun and Dooley is eager to join in. He uses his paw to tap the other dogs’ face – so gentle, so tender. They roll on the floor and skip from bed to bed, finally finding a carrot or bully stick – then its chewing time and everyone enjoys the relaxation.

Today Dooley had his surgery and is in recovery. All went well and he will be taking it easy for a couple of weeks to be sure his stitches stay secure. We will be sure to carry him rather than letting him jump or chase the other dogs for a few days.  Dooley will be back to his beautiful self soon. Stay tuned for updates.

Dooley is a Schnorkie – part mini Schnauzer / part Yorkshire Terrier; both are mixed to perfection.

Dooley is the dog everyone dreams of but rarely finds.

At 4 years old, he is the perfect age.  Not a zippy crazy wild puppy, not an old sedate sleeping curmudgeon.
At 6 pounds, he is the perfect weight.  He could stand to put on another pound or two and still be quite handsome.
This little man has the best manners – no barking, no growling, no chewing – nothing to make you cringe or wonder why you ever wanted a dog.
He sleeps all through the night in his bed, goes out to potty in the morning and comes right back in – looking to cuddle on the couch.
He LOVES to cuddle with you!
Dooley gets along quite well with both male and female dogs.  No food or toy aggression.
He really doesn’t care about Toys at all. You can try new ones and see if it will pique his interest.
While Dooley loves everybody small children aren’t a good idea for one so tiny.
Dooley marches along on his harness and leash like he is the leader of the parade but he does not pull.  He is not reactive to strange dogs – they are just white noise in the background.  He’s too busy checking out the world to fuss.
He eats all of his breakfast and supper quite happily. Treats are appreciated.  He loves to eat.
Dooley loves car rides and will sit contentedly on your lap or travel in a crate – no problem at all.
He will announce when there is a knock at the door –  just enough to let you know he knows you are there. Nothing annoying. Just a gentleman, through and through.
But the thing that will warm your heart and make you smile the biggest smile of all – he has excellent potty manners.  A MIRACLE!  As long as you are there to let him out, he is happy to go… He would do it himself, but… he doesn’t have thumbs.
This is the dog of your dreams.

Dooley is staying with Marilyn in Sinking Springs, PA.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
