Close your eyes... think back... do you remember your first date?  Was he cute? Did your parents like him?  Did he bring you flowers? It was such a wonderful time, do you remember?

Pretty Punkin has no such fond memories of the past.. not of a handsome boy or a loving hand.  She has been in a rabbit hutch in Lancaster, PA her whole life. With many other girls, cranking out puppies as fast as they could. For all those people who go into pet stores, Punkin's puppies went there. They got homes.

But Punkin froze in the winter - several of her cage partners froze to death last winter. And several died of heat stroke this summer when the thermometer hit 90 degrees day after baking day. But Punkin survived.

She's a survivor and the sweetest little girl.

she is 10 lbs. and will stay that weight.

punkin has never been loved or cared for. she is branded w/ a number in her ear.  she has been living in a rabbit hutch

producing puppies for 6 years. she has no idea she is worth anyones love.. she is sweet and friendly and very docile. she dare not be anything but. we can pick her up and  hold her close. she is stiff and motionless. she will run to her crate or bed and watch. she is no trouble. we tell her how beautiful and special she is using a calm voice. she needs someone who will understand that . it will take a long time for her to believe she is someones beloved pet. she is that to us now. she needs to believe it and trust that we would never harm her and our arms are for comforting. she watches as the other pets are caressed and enjoy it.

punkin needs patience and calm and the knowledge that she may never be the dog that jumps up to be petted. she doesnt require much. she deserves the world.

But she never had a chance to get out and walk. She never heard a phone ring or a tv commercial. The world is all new to her.

Punkin is a wise dog, as well as a beautiful dog. She is enjoying a clean comfy bed instead of dirty straw. Her foster mother says she slept very well in her crate over night, quiet and content.

Life begins at 40 for people.. life is beginning at 6 for Punkin.

Punkin asked me to let you know that she does not want your pity. She wants a home with people who will give her more than things like beds and food. She wants to learn what the new sounds are, what steps are for and how nice it is to ride in a car.  Punkin says life is good, if you just have patience.

Punkin is near Lancaster, PA with Rhonda, her foster mom. More pictures to follow. Call now. She's waiting!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
