Tootsie TT - has a story but we don't know what it is... and she isn't talking about it.

She was handed over by a stranger to a child in a parking lot. "Here, want a dog?"someone asked. The child said, "Sure!" and she took the dog home.  Mom and Dad had other ideas and Tootsie was handed over again. This time someone knew to call rescue and that's where we come in.

Tootsie has had puppies. She is not very old, perhaps 5 or 6 years old - that's a guess of course.

She weighs about 7 pounds - right on the money for a Yorkie... so she is perfect in size, age and looks!

We don't know if she is spayed and there is no way to tell... yet.

Here are some comments by the foster folks:

Tootsie is very playful, loves other dogs. (Do you have a small dog who needs a buddy?)

Tootsie loves to eat and drink, which leads to the natural process of fertilizing the flowers. She needs to be taken out to potty to take care of business, as is quite natural.

Tootise is very snuggly.  We call her "floppy" sometimes because whenever you pick her up or put her on your lap, she "flops" and lays down.

- She has a little snoopy nose, very cute.  She tends to make funny snorts when she is expressing herself - which makes us laugh - we call it 'nose music'.

She doesn't jump up on furniture - she is such a lady.

She has one leg that gives her trouble occasionally, but you can only really tell something is wrong with her leg when she runs.

- We think she is on the younger side, maybe 3-4 years old.  Her step sister yorkie, Bailey is almost 4 and Tootsie is so much more puppy like than she is.

She's doing well with chewing on toys and bones.

She has had her shots now and been tested for Heartworm and Lyme. She was treated for fleas and is getting a bath and a trim.

Her new foster mom and dad, Carolyn and David, are taking good care of her while we learn more about her - what she likes and doesn't like.  She is vacationing near Havre de Grace, MD. Put in your app if you are looking for a real darling girl.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
