It had just started to rain in the backyard and the distant thunder made her shiver just a bit. Although she was a brave little dog, she knew there was evil in the world because she had felt it. Her favorite toy was right beside her and she pushed it with her nose. The man of the house nodded over his Sunday paper and whispered, 'It's only a little noise. Nothing to worry about."

Tupper closed her eyes and waived an ear in his direction. She settled back down on her pink bed as her tail curled over her back. She was very special and very lucky. Just a few weeks ago a larger dog had rushed out at her from behind a parked car. The nightmare savaging still echoed in the shadows of her memory but she did not live in constant fear from it, as people might believe.

Cool air followed the summer shower, and the sun was glinting through the passing clouds. Soon her favorite lady would be home and oh - the things they could do! Tupper wiggled in delight because she was safe. Food came often here and her favorite jerky treats appeared every evening at 8 - like clockwork.

The other dogs in the house were spread over the living room floor - snoring in abandon. They had no bad shadows to deal with - life was good. They thought she was an odd sight with her scratches and cuts but since the people treated her like one of their own, they merely yawned when she walked by and went back to their naps.

That evening, after a game of Get the Ball, which Tupper excelled at with her young muscles and eager, happy attitude, she heard the woman on the phone. "She's a good girl. We think she may be a mix - her natural Yorkie tail tells us there's some Yorkie there. Her personality says she is beautiful whatever the combination may be."

The things that Tupper was good at formed a long list. She was very good at taking a bath. Standing for her brushing was a cinch. There was no problem with barking even when the other dogs barked. She was good with strangers, and thought everbody was her personal friend, who must have come to her home just to meet her and play "Get the Ball." Tupper had no enemies.

One of Tupper's favorite things - like her toys and jerky treats, included patroling the back yard.  She did the perimeter several times a day - stopping to sniff where a mole had tunneled, pricking her ears at the chocolate brown bunnies on the other side of her fence. She was proud of doing a job, of being useful and earning her kibble.

Tupper's family thinks of her as a rare jewel. A dog who goes with the flow, gets along, loves everyone and makes you smile with the happines she feels in being alive. She is the kind of dog who makes caring for a dog - a joy instead of a job.

This sweetheart is vacationing in Warminster, PA with Gail. Give her a call.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
