Sam's So Sweet! She is stunning!  Just like her sister, Charley, this is the very Yorkie girl everyone is looking for.  We are so proud to have her and her sister.

She is good with dogs and soooooo tiny!!!! Sweet with people and needy - she wants to be held and cuddled.

update:

We have started working on training. I have found that if I put Sam outside for 5 minutes every 2 hours she is able to take care of business. Sam knows what the word out means so I am hoping Sam will in time go to the door on her own. Now she will just jump down from the sofa and look at me. If I do not respond she will circle a few times and look at me some more until I do. Every day is an improvement.

I vacuumed today. No response from Sam. She just went on napping.

Sam's personality is coming out strong. She is making her wishes known. If she does not get what she wants there is one bark. Just one. This is to let you know you are not paying enough attention to her. With a tilt of her head and a swish of her rear you get what is going on with her. She is such a charmer I spend my days laughing.

Sam continues to eat very well.

Today Sam is doing very well. Her head is up as is her tail. Her eyes are opened and she engages.

Sam is about 80% house trained. We believe she will be fully trained after she becomes adjusted in her new home. She knows to go OUT and will use a puppy pad at night when it is cold or rainy.

We are being very particular about who gets her... so read carefully. If this describes your situation, you may put in your application. But please understand - many people are already approved to adopt and waiting for this little treasure. But if you never put your application in you will always be too late for one of these special Yorkies.

Here is what we are looking for:

1. An experienced dog family - hopefully a Yorkie family, who will insist that she go to obedience classes to learn the refining manners all good dogs know. No big dogs please.

2. A quiet home, no children - she is so small and scared, she needs a place without a lot of comings and goings and commotion.

3. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT ONE:   someone who can spend time with the dog.  No sending to mom's, no sending to doggie day care, no coming home for a minute at noon and the rest of the time she will be left alone.  She has BEEN left alone for far too long. Now it's HER turn to have someone give her some time.

We love a fenced yard but several daily walks - she must have several daily walks when the weather is good - this is required.

This little lovely is spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and as cute as a Yorkshire Terrier gets.

No need to call the foster mom, Marie.  Sam So Sweet is available but she won't be in rescue long.  Sam is vacationing in Baltimore, MD.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
