She's HERE!  Our own Peggy Sue So Cute!

She is a delightful mix of Yorkie and Shih Tzu.. what do we call that? Shiorkie? York Tzu?

Whichever it is, she is a beauty. So precious and pretty. Pretty Pretty Peggy Sue.

She is spayed, and up to date on shots. She is young, healhty and ready to come home.

We would LOVE to have someone with a fenced yard and who has time for a young dog. Lots of exercise and play. She is a baby and we require obedience classes to help her learn manners and her words.

Her foster mom reports:

Activities - Peggy Sue doesn't get a chance to walk on a leash because of their neighborhood. She only barks when the other dogs are barking and then just once or twice. She has gotten along with other dogs as small as 5 1/2 pounds and with  2 Yorkies that are 6 1/2 and 11 pounds.

Stairs, Sleeping and going outside - She has no problems with using the stairs and at night when I turn lights out and say "bedtime" and she follows the family upstairs and goes to her crate, gets in and stays there all night without a problem. For several days I tried keeping Peggy Sue and my Mr. Lucky stay downstairs in the kitchen in a gated 6 foot square area with access to the outside via a doggie door where I restricted their access to the outside to just the back deck. Both of them curled up in circle beds and slept the night through.  Peggy Sue learned the doggie door very quickly by watching the other dogs use it on the first day she was here and uses it anytime she wants to duringthe day.  Her potty training is coming along but there are still accidents if I am not paying attention and she is off by herself.

Playing with Peggy Sue - She absolutely loves to play with humans or other dogs. Although she is not aggressive with the other dogs - she does insist with them that they play with her by bounding around in front of them until they join her or run to a bed and lay down. She and my larger Yorkie run around the yard like crazy and then roll around onthe grass (I love dry shampoo for use after this trick).  She loves to chase a ball or a squeaky toy. If I would participate, she would fetch for hours each morning.  She starts the session by carrying the toy around and dropping it near me so we can play FETCH.  She is very good at bringing the toy back & giving it to you when you say drop it.  If no one wants to play FETCH with her, she plays a game or two by her self by throwing the toy up in the air and when it drops and she catches it.  Then she celebrates by running around and shaking it. If you try to join this game she will let you chase after her for a while.  At this point I ususally tap a finger to the floor and say down and she will immediatly drop to the floor with her legs splayed out so I can get the toy as start FETCH again..

Grooming -  When she came here it was very hot outside so I gave her back a shorter clipper cut and a slight trim to her tail just to clean her up.  She sat still for the clipping - no problem including around her hind quarters, but she really does not like her paws played with or trimmed and pulled away each time I tried.  I am working on her paw sensitivity by repeatedly touching and rubbing them when we are snuggled on the couch at night watching TV. She is comming along on that,  She likes to have her face wiped and is curious when I wipe the "sleep crumbs" out of her eyes each morning & tries to see what I found!  SHe loves to have her head, back and tail brushed - she arches her back and will sit still until I am done.

Food - Peggy Sue eats small or mini dry kibble (Royal Canin) mixed with 1 1/2 tablesopoons of canned food "Hills Gastro ID and she eats it really well - not picky at all about her dinner.  Once the canned fod is refrigerated I warm it for 20 seconds in the microwave and mush it down onthe kibble.  I have tried supplementing with treats of human food (banana or cooked carrots which my Yorkies LOVE) but she is only interesting in rolling them around in her mouth and then spitting them on the floor (which my Mr. Lucky is happy to clean up since he is always on watch for kind of windfall).

Lovin' - Peggy Sue is a love bug.  SHe wants nothing more that to curl up on or near your lap so you can pet her while she naps or rests.  I take an hour naptime each afternoon with the dogs on the couch.  Peggy can jump up on the couch herself and circle once then down.  She is a very loveable dog, loves contact with her humans and is always looding to be around whatever they are doing.  She has long eyelashes and she uses her cute face to get your attention and get close.

Peggy Sue is vacationing near Annapolis, MD with Joanne.  Put your application in today!

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
