At 5 pounds, Coach is the perfect lapdog!  He came to rescue because his family had to move to a different home that did not allow dogs.

He is used to being loved and is looking for a new family to do just that!  Are you the right family for him?

He is loving and loyal and likes to be with his human.  He rides nicely in the car and goes with his Foster Mom on her daily errands where he is getting used to all the attention a cute little Yorkie naturally gets.

He does not like living with other dogs - so NO other dogs should be in his new family.  He would not welcome another dog as a frequent visitor so please understand - he needs discipline to learn what he is allowed to do and what he is not allowed. Putting him in a crate for a time out is not discipline.  He needs an experienced guardian who will love him but show him what the rules are in the home.

Please - no children under 10 years old and no Cats or other Dogs.  He loves people but not cats or dogs.

Since he is only 4 years old, so he needs an active family who walks daily and religiously. This is important to his health and happiness. A fenced yard is nice but does not give him the stimulation that a walk provides. All dogs need that exercise and socialization.

He loves to play - with squeaky toys and little squeaky balls.  (His favorite toy now is a pink piggy that squeaks when he bites on the middle!)

He is mostly house broken but keep in mind that that is because he has access to the outdoors at all times in his foster home through a doggie door. This would not be true in most homes so he would have to be taken outside often to learn to be on a schedule for pottying.

He loves to nap on the couch or snuggle in a doggie bed at night.  He eats very well and really likes to be combed and brushed!

Coach's Foster home is near Annapolis, MD.  Again - he needs an experienced dog owner, who is active and has time to walk him, train him and play with him.  Love is NOT enough.  Keep these needs in mind when you consider adopting any dog.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
