Vella

When Vella arrived as a pretty sick little foster in August, we never thought she would be sticking around. We had lost a mild mannered, dear Yorkie named Moxie in December, and we were hoping to find another Yorkie pup eventually. The idea was to help Vella get well and find a new home. Then we would foster another pup. Time passed, and with the help of our dedicated vet, Vella finally began to feel better. Then, applications to adopt her started to arrive. Oh no, someone wanted her! Would they be right for her? Good enough? Would they understand her idiosyncrasies? For example, would they be irritated by her ear-piercing yip when in pain or startled? Would they be embarrassed if she anxiously growled at a neighbor? Would they be careful enough about her limited diet? This past week, John and I agreed we'd never know the answers to these questions because she needed to stay with us. She has always thought we were hers, playing musical laps when we sit on the couch and leaping high in the air when one of us comes home. It just took us a while to realize she is ours. We've been calling her Bella, a lovely name and easier to say. We're planning to have Bella tested, and we'll let you know how much Yorkie is in there eventually. In the meantime, Bella is here to stay. Congratulations Vella!!!
