Sassafras

Kate and Rick Baker drove down from DC today to meet Sassy. We met up in the front yard and Kate reached out for Sassy immediately. It was easy to see that Kate had already fallen in love with her and Rick wasn’t far behind. After we had set up the meet and greet I sent them pictures of Sassy so I guess I have myself to blame. But who am I kidding. Anyone who meets Sassy falls in love with her. Kate has already purchased a sweater for the cooler nights coming up. A raincoat is on order and a life vest will be purchased by spring. I have been assured that Sassy will go everywhere with them, including vacations. There are plenty of restaurants in the neighborhood with outdoor seating. Summers will be spent on the Eastern Shore and Sassy will have many days out on the Bay sailing. A friend who lives nearby has 2 little Morkies so there are friends waiting to meet her. Most importantly, at home, Sassy will get to be the Queen she so richly deserves. The Baker’s did ask if it would be ok to change Sassy’s name. We went over the best way to transition her to the new name of Fergie. Of course that name was picked in honor of the ex Duchess of York. Sassy/Fergie really will be royalty!!! All Sassy wants is a person to be near and to love. She will certainly have that with Kate and Rick. I will say that Sassy is one lucky little girl but ultimately it is the Baker’s who are the lucky one’s. Congratulations Sassafras!!!

Gizzimo

The Millers, Lisa and Bill, traveled 3 hours on Friday to meet Gizzimo and introduce him to his new sibling, Yoshi. They hit it off perfectly. Gizzimo said goodbye to foster brothers and sisters here at the Gosnay house and was on his way to his second start in life. After they got him home, he snuggled with Bill who gave Gizzimo his dearly loved belly rubs. He was pampered and spoiled the whole night through. It was hard to say goodbye to him as he is one in a million and I even shed a tear or two, however the Millers reassured me that they would keep in touch, sending pictures and updates, and even mentioned the possibility of a visit from him when they are in the area to visit friends. Gizzimo deserves what the Millers are willing to give him. The best in life, with all the love and attention that he deserves. He is a very special dog who has been united with a very special, loving family. Which is exactly what he deserves after such a rocky road in life.

Breezie

On Thursday evening the Scalora family traveled almost 2 hours each way, in the rain, to meet Breezie! All five of them came in and we exchanged hello's and introductions while I was holding Breezie (I had already explained to them that she will be apprehensive at first). There were lots of ooh's and ahh's going on! Mario and Tricia's son, Sal was in charge of a super excited Winston, their four-legged son, who could not wait to meet Breezie; but she was playing hard to get. We all sat on the floor and of course Breezie was on my lap while we talked all about her. I suggested to their daughter, Olivia to reach for the bag of treats on the counter and Breezie had a new best friend, soon she was on Olivia's lap. It was mentioned that their daughter is their dog whisperer and plans to become a vet. I thought to myself, I sure hope that Breezie makes a good impression on them because this is a fantastic, animal loving family! As we talked more, Mario said they already had Breezie signed up for an obedience course with Olivia and they were going to enroll her in the same insurance plan as Winston. They know it will take time for her to acclimate in her new home...they kept saying everything that I needed to hear. I think they were sent from God just for Breezie! This wonderful family is exactly what Breezie needs to become a confident and a well-adjusted pup! They still had a long ride home, so Mario asked Olivia, "Do you think she is the one?" and without hesitation, Olivia said YES! We then did paperwork and went over all the records we were sending along with Breezie. We were getting ready for the picture when I heard Olivia say to her mom, "We are just shy of celebrating her first birthday!" and Tricia piped up,"We can always do a belated birthday party!" Tom and I said our goodbye's (me with lots of tears and Tom with an aching heart) and told Breezie how much we loved her and that she will have a wonderful life! We couldn't be happier for this sweet little girl and the Scalora family said we can come to visit her anytime! Olivia and Mario both texted me pictures of Breezie when they finally arrived home. One was of Breezie beside Winston after they went out together to potty and the other was of Breezie sitting on Olivia's lap as they were watching TV. That warmed my heart! Her new name is Phoebe. Congratulations Breezie as you were known in rescue!!!

Indy

Wednesday September 18th was a very happy day for me. It was the day I was officially Indy's new mommy! As it was known, Indy came into rescue with an issue involving her left leg. In the beginning we were not sure how severe her issue was until she was seen by a very respectable orthopedic surgeon and it became clear that Indy had a very complex issue that required surgery. Surgery was scheduled at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Collegeville PA. When I returned to pick her up after surgery the doctor advised that it was a very intense surgery and it would take some time to see if it was successful. You can only imagine how difficult it can be to keep a one year old quite and confined. At the same time I was also fostering Rudy and older boy Yorkie. After many follow up appointments with fingers crossed and anxiety high the doctor shared that Indys leg was healing but again 4 more weeks of confinement. I realized early on that I was getting very attached to this little girl who needed so much love and understanding as she continued to heal from an injury that affected her from walking normally and pain free. I made the decision that I had spent and given so much love and time to her and hopeful for a successful recovery that I informed the team that I wanted her to become MY little girl. We are still in healing mode for another 4 weeks along with therapy hoping that the will eventually put that leg down all of the time but if not I accept whatever she can do with that leg because I love her so much and will take her with a limp! So many people inquired about Indy mostly I'm sure because of her beauty and not really understanding the severity of her injury but I knew and in the end it makes no difference. She is my little girl and I love her so much!

Rudy Tootie

Today was such a bittersweet day for me and mom. Rudy was going to meet his forever mommy and daddy. I have known from the beginning with all of the emails, text messages and pictures shared that this couple had made up their mind early on that my lucky little boy who came to me in a heat wave was going to be their forever fur baby. What validated my feelings that this was going to be the one was not until many emails later did I get to understand that the daddy was a professional pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. His fiance's a sweet and caring young lady and an avid animal lover. She was so determined to have Rudy for her own. Kristen and Cole arrived at my home and she scooped him up and started to just hug him. Cole was smiling ear to ear and they both were just so happy to be able to hold him knowing they could leave with Rudy. As this was my first successful adoption I can not explain how happy and sad at the same time I was but knowing how anxious and excited they have been made it easier to let him go. I have received many video and pictures since they left. Rockey actually put his paws on the field at Citizen Bank Park already. A Phillies boy he will be! I feel honored and blessed to volunteer for a very caring organization that brings joy to a family looking for a forever baby. Congratulations Rudy Tootie!!!
