When Save A Yorkie rescues a Yorkie, the work begins to insure the dog is ready for adoption. The largest expense by far is the veterinary bills. Our dogs get vetted immediately. Typically a volunteer will pick the dog up at the shelter and either transport him to the foster parent, or be the foster parent himself. As soon as possible, usually the day of pick up, the dog is taken to the vet. Sometimes these bills might be a $300; but sometimes the bills are more, much more.
Recently a Yorkie was run over by a car and the owner did not have enough money to pay for surgery to repair the crushed pelvis and broken leg. The owner took his dog to the vet and told the vet to euthanize him. The vet called Save A Yorkie; we picked him up and took him to a veterinary hospital. After $6,000 of surgical and follow-up care, that dog now runs like the wind. Another Yorkie saved and adopted.
The bottom line: money. Unlike many non-profits, ALL OF THE MONEY DONATED TO SAVE A YORKIE IS USED DIRECTLY FOR YORKIE CARE, none of it is used for administration.
How can you help?
1. Planned giving through your will, retirement account, trust
There are a number of easy giving options from which you can choose – from naming us as a beneficiary in your will or retirement account to a gift that pays you income during your lifetime to a more flexible trust arrangement.
The best thing to do is talk to your attorney or financial planner to help you. The easiest thing you can do right away, is to make Save A Yorkie the beneficiary, or one of the beneficiaries, of your IRA, 401(k) or other retirement account or your life insurance.
2. Donate now! We need your help with the Yorkies we take in right now.
Please use Paypal to make your donation now. The vet bills keep coming in. Whatever it takes to get a dog healthy and save him, that's what we do. Please help us!
Save A Yorkie, Rescue is a nonprofit, tax exempt 501(c)(3). All donations are tax deductible. Every dollar donated goes to the care of Yorkies who have LOST EVERYTHING—their family—their home—their very name. Help us help them.

If your contribution is in honor of, or in memory of, an individual or cherished pet, or to commemorate a special occasion, an acknowledgement card will be mailed to you or anyone you designate. (Please note, acknowledgements are hand written by Save A Yorkie volunteers. Please allow 2 – 3 weeks for you or your designee to receive the card.)
