Simon Sez is available for adoption.

He is 10 years old and weighs 8 lbs.

His adoption fee is $500.00.

Simon Sez came into Foster Care from ACC in Manhattan on June 13, 2023.

-          10 yrs old (best guess) and 8 lbs.

-          Good on leash, loves his walks...but tends to stroll. Does not pull. He does not yet like to meet            other dogs on his walks and will bark at them.

-          On longer walks (greater than 10 or 15 minutes), he enjoys being carried part way.

-          Enjoys lying in your lap or next to you to watch TV.

-          He will happily lick your face if you get too close. (Every time.)

-          Enjoys his meal times. Not food aggressive at all.

-          Barks at meal time or when he wants a treat.

-          Beginning to indicate when he wants to relieve himself outside by barking and heading towards the back door.

-          Enjoys being picked up to lay in your lap whenever he barks a bit. Will settle down immediately.

-          Cannot jump up on furniture

-          Does not climb stairs. The most he will do is the two steps from the deck to the yard.

-          Tolerates other dogs at home, but tends to tussle for a few seconds with his housemates when let outside.

-          Tolerates grooming well but does not yet like bath time. Tends to squirm a lot.

-          Thunderstorms do not affect him at all. No anxious behaviour even though our other dogs are afraid of thunder and rain.

-          Does not play with toys (although he has plenty to choose from) and doesn’t care when the other dogs do.

-          Teeth brushing is still a work in progress.

-          Potty training moving along, but no issues at all during nighttime.  Belly band still needed during the day.

-          Belly Band is often dry during the day as long as he is taken out frequently (every 2-3 hours)

-          Does not care to sleep in a traditional doggie bed with sides...loves a blanket on the floor or a flat doggie cushion.

-          Sleeps through the night without barking or having accidents. (9-10 hours).

Medical:

-          Neuter procedure (done July 12) no issues. Completely healed.

-          Dental procedure (done Aug 1) removed 11 teeth.  No impact on appetite. Completely healed.

-          Front paw cyst removal (done Aug 1). No issues. Completely healed.

-          Eye medication (1/4” ointment in each eye given 2x/day) will probably be long term.  Tolerates it very well.

(NOTE: Re-evaluated 9-28-23, eyes much better...medication down to 1x per day.)

Simon Sez is staying with Michael and Maryanne in New Canaan, CT.

KEEP THESE FACTS IN MIND:
1. Yorkies do not usually get along well with small children and can be injured by small children, even ones who love them. Be aware of this and keep them apart. 2. Yorkies can be very difficult (nearly impossible) to housebreak. If you are gone for more than 3 hours at a time, the dog will have to have access to wee wee pads, or need someone to stop in to let him out to potty.
3. We almost NEVER get a puppy (less than one year old) in Yorkie Rescue. If only a puppy will do, check the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America website for a recommended breeder - never buy over the Internet, or from a newspaper ad or a petstore. The heartache you save will be immeasureable.
4. There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie, so don't be misled by such a description. LEARN about the breed BEFORE you decide to adopt.
5. You will need to make arrangements to drive and meet the dog at the foster home which can be in New Jersey, western PA, Maryland,  etc. The dog's biography lists where the dog is fostering. We want you to meet the dog with your family and your dog, if you have one. This is a requirement for adoption.

WHAT IS THE ADOPTION FEE?
Adoption donations generally vary from dog to dog, it depends on the health, the age and the size of the dog.

Young Yorkies will have a higher adoption donation since they are the most highly sought after and they help to cover the costs of the older dogs who have a harder time finding a loving home. It is sad but true that people overwhelming demand very young dogs when they would be infinitely happier with a mellow adult.

 ADOPTION AREA

Save A Yorkie Rescue prefers to adopt only in the PA, NJ, western NY, DE, MD, VA, some CT area's. If you are in the NYC area or near Long Island, there is a Yorkie Rescue closer to you.

Be aware that you will be asked to drive to meet and pick up your dog.
